THE WRITING PROCESS AS LINKED TO THE 6+1 WRITING TRAITS
During LIT class dated 11/10/23 we explored and discussed the steps to the writing process along with the 6+1 traits of writing. Its is evident that the writing process has developed over the years from what Britton (1970b) labeled them as conception, incubation and production. To what they are now a more complexed problem-solving process which entails Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing and Publishing.
I am of the view that the writing process as a structure of non linear steps, is equipped to help writers convey their thought through print.
The writing process shows an interrelated relationship with the 6+1 traits of writing. V.O.I.C.E.S as it is acronym lends it self as an additional guide of teaching, modelling and assessing students journey through the writing process. The 6+1 traits to writing also acts as an instrument for each stage of the writing process to aid students in formulating ideas, organization of those ideas, selection of appropriate words and context to writing and to the presentation of these and more in a creative way.
The 6+1 Traits of Writing provide authors with an orderly method to evaluate their work and improve it at various phases of the writing process, which is why they are tied to the writing process. During the prewriting phase, writers utilize the "Ideas" attribute to generate material that is focused, lucid, and engaging. During the drafting and editing phases, focusing on "Organization," "Voice," and "Word Choice" will help you produce a well-organized and captivating piece of writing. When you write and edit, the "sentence fluency" attribute dictates how well the text flows. In order to eliminate errors throughout the editing and proofreading process, writers focus on adhering to "Conventions." In order to ensure that the work seems polished and professional, it is crucial to consider the "Presentation" feature while proofreading and formatting it for the last time.
